Is Beef Jerky Good for You?

Yes! As moisture and fat content are removed from the meat during the dehydration process, beef jerky is an excellent source of protein (as much as 15g of protein per serving size) and is generally 97% Fat-Free.   In addition to offering a healthy amount protein per piece, beef jerky doesn’t raise your level of insulin and good beef jerky (not the kind you find at the gas station) generally doesn’t have MSG or other harmful preservatives in it.

MSG is no bueno.

Let’s say you are on the way to the gym (I know not the most exciting thing to do on Friday night) and realize your stomach is growling.  If your plans include grabbing some chips and beef jerky at the local gas station, the answer to this question is no, that beef jerky is not good for you.    It’s likely been sitting on the shelf preserved by MSG and other less than desirable preservatives.

In fact, there is a ton of controversy surrounding MSG in the natural health community. It is claimed to cause asthma, headaches and even brain damage.    You are probably better off fasting for the day, versus consuming gas station beef jerky.

On the other hand, if you had just signed up for a Beef Jerky Subscription, you’d be well on your way to enjoying a snack that is high in protein and a snack that can help stabilize blood sugars while providing amino acids to promote muscle growth and recovery.

Not all Beef Jerky is created equal and it’s likely those found in your grocery store isle, gas stations, and newspaper stands are loaded with MSG (Monosodium glutamate) and tons of sodium are not considered healthy.

Craft Beef Jerky, like the type you’d receive from our Beef Jerky Subscription is something that makes a great post work-work snack providing you as much as 15g of protein per server with a low fat content.

Let’s take a look at what the USDA says about beef jerky and you can decide for yourself:

The process of making beef jerky benefits you in a couple of ways.    Through the dehydration process, it eliminates the excess fat, so you are left with a low-fat product that is high in protein providing your body a higher level of both Iron and Zinc.   In fact, beef jerky has nearly double the amount of protein as uncured meat.

If you hit the gym a couple of times per week and need fuel to refresh, a Beef Jerky Subscription is the perfect way to make sure you aren’t stuck stocking up on gas station snacks before your big lift session.    In fact, you can receive up to 6 packs of craft beef jerky each month & enjoy a healthy snack without consuming ingredients that cause asthma, headaches and even brain damage.
